During the winter holiday season, Union Square hosts an ice skating rink and other seasonal displays, including a giant Christmas tree, among other special events. An elevated patch of green amidst the neighborhood's neoclassical hotels, multi-story department stores and chic clothing boutiques, the park at Union Square is anchored by a grand 85-foot Dewey Monument, topped with a bronze figure known as Victory (sometimes called the Goddess of Victory), reportedly modeled after influential San Francisco art collector and socialite Alma de Bretteville Sprekels.
